Analysis of Internet Gateway Placement Problem in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks for Machine to Machine Communication

2019
Internet of Things (IoT) is a novel network of internet-enabled sensor devices where each sensor device uses heterogeneous wireless technologies for communication. IoT collects information by sensor devices through the intermediate coordinating device and disseminating the sensed data to the IoT Cloud through IoT gateway with direct or multi-hop communication. IoT gateway(s) are needed for communication between the sensor network and IoT cloud which supports all technologies in IoT network. IoT network comprises of multiple IoT gateways (IGW) which may result in an expensive system. To increase performance of network, the placement of the gateways should be optimal which will reduce the deployment cost and increase throughput. Many different methods have been given by researchers for placements of gateways considering different parameters. However, proper placement of IoT gateways and specific gateways become essential in IoT network. This paper focused on the various approaches for gateway placement issues in IoT network.
