Intent-based networking platform: an automated approach for policy and configuration of next-generation networks

2021
The goal of 5th generation networks is to provide network services to everything, i.e. moving beyond mobile devices. This extension of the network domain led to an exponential raise in the complexity in terms of architecture, infrastructure, and deployment. Due to the vast number of new applications, each having a specific set of requirements, requiring proficient experts incorporating manual multi-level and domain specific operations for the design deployment and orchestration of networks. Due to the complexity and specificness of configurations the manual approaches are highly erroneous and uncertain. In addition, they don't confirm an optimal solution. Hence, this manuscript describes two possible solutions. The first is the automatic configuration for the deployment and management of the network using an intent-based networking application, while the second introduced a network-slicing scenario using a network slice selection procedure by enhancing existing Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network architecture. The M-CORD platform is used for the implementation of the network slicing scenario.
