Report of the IFSTP Professional Standards Subcommittee (PSSC)

2003
TheProfessional StandardsSubcommitteewasestablishedby the IFSTP in 1996. Its mandate was to summarize the aca-demic requirements for a toxicologic pathologist in the vari-ous sister societies. The intent of this exercise was to createa standard that would be generally acceptable as a minimumstandard for a practicing toxicologic pathologist and to serveas a blueprint for those wishing to enter or develop an edu-cation program.Fromtheoutsetitwasrealizedthatauniformaccreditationstandard was far from realistic, while a formal accreditationsystem was already under development, though at a moresenior level, by the International Academy of ToxicologicPathology (IATP).The PSSC has met annually during STP and IFSTP meet-ings. Due to changes in representation of the societies duringthe course of the process, more representatives have con-tributed than those currently mentioned.
