Dynamic Re‐organization of Individual Adhesion Nanoclusters in Living Cells by Ligand‐Patterned Surfaces

2009
The cell-plasma membrane is a highly dynamic interface with key molecular interactions taking place at nanometer scales. A myriad of receptors and ligands that mediate, amongst others, cell adhesion, pathogen recognition, and signal transduction with other cells are located on the plasma membrane. In the particular case of adhesion receptors, their function is tightly regulated by their conformational state, spatiotemporal distribution on the cell membrane and dynamic interaction to their cognate ligand. Although conformational mechanisms occurring on adhesion receptors leading to increased affinity to their ligand are well established, much less is known about the complex relationship between receptor conformation and its lateral
