A simple technique for determining internal mammary chain depth by sonography

A simple quick technique is described to determine the depth of the internal mammary lymph nodes. This technique obtains 3 direct (not estimated) measurements of the internal mammary chain (IMC) field from a single transverse sonographic scan. The importance of obtaining this measurement in the therapy treatment position is stressed. In breast carcinoma patients who are to be treated by radiation therapy alone, spurious measurements may be obtained if they are taken in other positions.
