TAXONOMY, DISTRIBUTION AND PRDUCTION OF GENUS SIGANUS MARINE WATERS OF EGYPT

Taxonomical studies on Siganids revealed that five species ab initio identified in Rad sea and two only immigrated via Suez Canal to inhibit eastern Mediterranean viz. Siganus rivulatus and Siganus luridus Classic taxonomy was reviewed in the present investigation and the production rates of the genus were also discussed mainly for the annual catch of marine bony fishes in Egypt. The average catch of genus Siganus is 0.84% of total fish landing during 1992- 1996 from Mediterranean. At Alexandria region it was. 1.08%. Red Sea production of Siganus contributed only 0.27% during the same period. The catch of 1996 showed more production of fishes and Siganus as Well due to proper fisheries management and mariculture practices in the coastal zone of marine waters of Egypt
