The invention relates to a catalyst comprising a matrix mainly calcined alumina oxide and an active phase comprising nickel, the said active phase being at least partly comalaxee within said matrix oxide mainly alumina calcined, the nickel content being between 5 and 65 % weight of said member relative to the total mass of the catalyst, the active phase not comprising a group VIB metal, nickel particles having a diameter less than 15 nm, said catalyst having a median diameter mesoporous between 12 nm and 25 nm, a median diameter macroporous between 50 and 300 nm, a mesoporous volume measured by mercury porosimetry greater or equal to 0.40 ml / g and a total pore volume measured by mercury porosimetry greater or equal to 0.45 ml / g. The invention also relates to the process for preparing said catalyst and its use in a hydrogenation process.
