Margot Roe: An appreciation

2016
Margot was the daughter of a Melbourne schoolteacher and a Dutch man engaged in commerce in Colombo. The family lived in Colombo until the start of the Second World War, when they moved to Melbourne. After the war, the family spent some years in Borneo where Margot's father assisted with the local revival of the rubber industry. Margot completed her schooling and then a history degree at Melbourne University. After graduation, she completed a Diploma in Anthropology at Cambridge where she married Michael Roe in 1955. Both achieved doctorates, Margot's in 1962 at the Australian National University.
