Chaotic instability of parametric amplifiers

Abstract The relation of a signal to be amplified to pumping oscillations is studied in single-mode parametric amplifiers both theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that a stochastic instability can already be observed in such systems under quasilinear excitation conditions. The mechanisms and scenarios of chaos onset are established.
