Solar-Enhanced Hybrid Lithium-Oxygen Batteries with a Low Voltage and Superior Long-life Stability

2020
The lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs) have been suffering from the large charge overpotential for the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Here, the strategy used in photo-electrochemical (PEC) water oxidation area is integrated into hybrid LOBs. Coating the α-Fe2O3 with NiOOH exhibits an enhanced electrochemical property and the as-assembled hybrid LOBs deliver the low charge voltage of 3.03 V, high energy efficiency of 88% and long-time stability for over 350 hours.
