High power microwave test stand for window and waveguide breakdown studies

1998
Summary form only given. A high power microwave test stand has been constructed at the University of New Mexico in support of the Department of Energy's Accelerator for the Production of Tritium (APT) program. The purpose of the test stand is to improve arc detection diagnostics (performance and/or cost) through an improved understanding of arc physics. The system is driven by a 850 MHz klystron that can deliver more than a MW of RF power for pulse durations of many milliseconds. A detailed description or the test stand will be presented as well as initial data describing window and waveguide breakdown phenomena.
