The limitations of analogues selected from sequences of daily weather types over the British Isles

An account is given of a numerical experiment in extended period forecasting using analogues selected on the basis of similarity of sequences of daily weather types. The resulting forecasts of weather sequences are significantly better than chance for between 5 and 10 days. This result is probably largely due to persistence.
