SITE INVESTIGATION FOR BORED PILING IN LONDON CLAY

1992
Traditional site investigation techniques coupled with normal design processes cannot be regarded as satisfactory in view of the increasingly common occurrence of clause 12 type claims for "unforeseen ground conditions". It is suggested that problems commonly arise from improper interpretation of soil data rather than from faulty data per se. It is concluded that, if the traditional design approach is used, due regard must be given to the accuracy of the data employed. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 862422.
