Psychosocial Factors Related to Internet Addiction Disorders Among Senior Middle School Students in Zhejiang Province

Objective To study the prevalence of internet addiction disorder(IAD) and the related psychosocial factors, and to provide bases for prevention measures. Methods A random sample of senior middle school students from 11 cities or towns were investigated with self-administered questionnaire, Internet Addiction Test(IAT), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ), Coping Style Scale for Middle School Students, and Stressor Scale for Middle School Students. Results The prevalence of IAD was 8.9%, which was higher in schoolboys than in schoolgirls. All scores of Stressor Scale were higher in IAD group than in non IAD group. All the scores of coping style are correlated with total score of IAT except for support seeking. The P score and N score in EPQ were higher in IAD group than in non IAD group and L score was lower in IAD. Multiple stepwise regression analysis indicated that education manner of parents, L score, flight, fantasy and denial, P score and accompanier pressure entered the equation.Conclusion Psychological intervention of internet addiction can be conducted based on each factors of stress.
