Storage ring magnet for a proposed new precision measurement of the muon anomalous magnetic moment

2008
A brief discussion is given of a proposed new precision measurement at the BNL AGS of muon g–2 at the level of 0.35 ppm which would represent an improvement by a factor of 20 over the famous CERN experiment. As at CERN a muon storage ring will be employed. This paper gives the parameters for the experiment and emphasizes features of the storage ring magnet and of the NMR system required to achieve the requisite precision of 0.1 ppm in the mean magnetic field.
