The Fries Rearrangement of Acetoxybenzofuran Derivatives and the Synthesis of Furochromenonecarboxylic Acids

The Fries rearrangement of 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-acetoxy-2,3-dimethylbenzofurans was studied and the o-hydroxy-ketones obtained were converted to dimethylfuro derivatives of 4H-chromen-4-one-2-carboxylic acid.
