Use of Cyclooxygenase Inhibitors in the Acute Catabolic State

1996
In the early phases of an acute catabolic state, different cascades in the inflammatory process are activated. Among the many important mediators involved in the acute catabolic state are the eicosanoids. These substances are generated from phospholipids in response to a great variety of stimuli. After the discovery of prostaglandin in the 1930s, later work with these substances has elucidated the knowledge of a great diversity of eicosanoids with different properties.
