Modulation in work function of CdS-Bi2S3 heteroarchitecture and its correlation with FE behavior

The prime considerations for the nanostructures to be employed in configuring a planar emitter are aspect ratio and workfunction. Present Study explores the correlation of workfunction and field emission performance of the single step hydrothermally synthesized CdS-Bi2S3 heteroarchitecture. Workfunction measurement of the pristine Bi2S3 and CdS-Bi2S3 heteroarchitecture was carried out using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). The Field enhancement factor β (aspect ratio) of the emitter is determined from F-N plot. Interestingly, the workfunction results complement the observed FE performance. The present results demonstrate CdS-Bi2S3 heteroarchitecture as potential candidate in future vacuum microelectronic device applications.
