A Novel Configurable Transceiver for a Hybrid Continuous Waveform Radar

This paper proposes a hybrid radar transceiver which combines the strength of both a Doppler continuous-waveform radar and a linear frequency modulation continuous-waveform radar. The hybrid radar transceiver can be configured as either a Doppler radar transceiver to measure velocity or configured as a FMCW radar transceiver to measure distance. The paper creatively proposes a differential ring VCO as a frequency synthesizer whose output can quickly switch between a single tone for Doppler radar and a wide bandwidth modulate signal for the FMCW radar. The block-level and system-level simulations are run to verify the functionalities of the proposed hybrid radar transceiver.
