Perspectives of global coffee demand

Abstract The objectives of this chapter are to analyze perspectives for the global demand for coffee in the present and future to provide better understanding of available information and data in such a way that all agents of the chain can organize themselves to be more competitive in the near future, keeping in mind the global market that they will be inserted into. This chapter is divided into three parts: coffee production and supply chain; coffee demand; and coffee prices, differentiation, and marketing approach. The first step is to summarize what is already known about these topics, then aggregating relevant data about global demographic and income evolution, as well as current and future scenarios to understand how they relate to the world’s demand for coffee. The main conclusions at this point are that the world’s population and income per capita are rising, which has a high correlation with the consumption of coffee; moreover, the global population is also becoming older, which is also positive for coffee suppliers. In the last 26 years, there has been a 67.9% growth in global coffee consumption.
