Embolización transarterial de hepatocarcinoma como terapia down-staging en la realización de trasplante

2014
Liver transplantation is one of the definitive treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The criteria of Milan and UCSF are best used for eligibility of a candidate for transplant with HCC. Currently, patients who exceed the established crite- ria, the bridge therapy is proposed by using adjuvant therapies such as chemoembolization and transarterial tumor emboliza- tion to reduce the size of the lesion, known as down staging. We describe a patient with a single 5.8 cm tumor who received a soft embolization as down-staging therapy, and after two months received a liver transplant. After 18 months, the pa- tient is alive without recurrence of the tumor. The usefulness of transarterial embolization as down staging therapy in a pa- tient with hepatocellular carcinoma is demonstrated.
