The above‐knee amputation for ischaemia

1971
The results of 283 above-knee amputations for ischaemia, using techniques standardized since 1950, are described. The primary healing rate was 76 per cent and the mortality 9 per cent; these results compare favourably with those of published series for other sites of amputation. Antibiotic cover was not used. Seventy-five per cent of the patients were able to walk on appliances and attention is particularly drawn to the value of the short rocker pylons which have been fitted to the 25-cm. stumps of the bilateral amputee.
