28GHz Cooperative Digital Beamforming for 5G Advanced System on an SDR Platform

2021
This paper describes our research background, perspective and research schedule. An implementation of base stations as a software defined radio (SDR) is a reasonable way to satisfy several different requirements for 5G system such as ultra-reliable and low latency communication (URLLC), enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), and massive machine type communications (mMTC) at the same time. A software implementation of wireless physical layers is also highly compatible with RAN virtualization, which realizes flexible wireless network infrastructure, and is being one of the standard technologies for 5G and beyond 5G wireless communication systems. We focus on an implementation of a RAN for 1000m2 ‘nano-area’ with mmWave remote units under a single virtual distributed unit (vDU) and are developing new techniques of hybrid beamforming and cooperative multiple radio units (RUs).
