ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES: PEDESTRAINS & MOTORCYCLES IN AUTOMOTIVE COLLISIONS. METHODOLGY OF RECONSTRUCTIONS AND TEST PROCEDURES

1990
Data from in-depth at-the-scene study of pedestrain accidents have been used in conjunction with data obtained from studies using existing police and hospital records to examine the influence of exterior car design, impact speed, and pedestrain age on pedestrain injuries. The causes of pedestrain injury are identified and it is shown that the severity of pedestrain injuries can be reduced by appropriate design of the car exterior. The potential benefits from improved design have been examined and factors to be considered in establishing realistic test procedures for pedestrain protection are discussed. Pedestrain accidents were reconstructed in experimental simulations using dummies and cadavars.
