Assessment of damage, field and factory losses in sugarcane due to Gurdaspur borer Acigona steniellus infestation

2001
The pest remained active from June to October. Infestation was positively correlated with high relative humidity and rainfall and negatively correlated with high temperature and sun shine. Larval infestation caused 11.12-70.92 per cent reduction in caneweight, 27.28-55.45 per cent in millable cane length, 16.80-34.04 per cent in cane diameter and 18.53- 50.59 per cent reduction in internode number. Quality wise loss was 10.40-29.74 per cent in polarity, 10.34-25.51 per cent in total solids, 16.00-41.42 per cent in CCS, 0.11-21.70 per cent in purity and 10.00-30.32 per cent in sucrose content during different gencrations of the pest.
