Maximum Voltage Transfer Ratio of Matrix Converter under DTC with Rotating Vectors

2020
Matrix converter rotating vectors (RVs) have the natural advantage of zero common-mode voltage (CMV). If the RVs alone are employed to drive the motor, ideal minimization of CMV can be achieved. However, it is proven in existing literature that the maximum voltage transfer ratio (VTR) is only 0.5 with space vector modulation using only RVs, which greatly limits the practical application value of the RV. This article quantitatively analyzes the maximum VTR under an existing direct torque control using only RVs, and the result is 0.833, which is much greater than 0.5. Experiments are carried out to verify this conclusion. This article reveals the potential of RVs, and hence promotes further research on the CMV minimization strategies without sacrificing performance like maximum.
