Investigation on current situation of hypertension and its influencing factors in rural population in Xihe County of Gansu Province

Objective To understand epidemic situation of hypertension and influencing factors of rural population in Xihe County of Gansu Province to provide scientific basis for control.Methods A random sampling survey was carried out to investigate 2 224 rural persons over 18 years old at 13 villages with medical examination and questionnaire.Results The prevalence of hypertension was 29.14% with 28.47% of the male and 29.80% of the female.There was no statistical difference between them(χ2= 0.479,P0.05).The prevalence of hypertension increased with age.Obesity,salty diet,drinking excessively,smoking,less fruit and too much pickled foods and animal fat,and no regular exercise were risk factors of hypertension.Conclusions The prevalence of hypertension in rural population in Gansu is higher than that of the National.It is one of the major diseases affecting the health of local people.Various health education mode aiming at the bad life and eating habits should be taken to reduce the prevalence of hypertension.
