Summary New findings report a mechanical role for actin in Golgi organization and vesicular trafficking. An elegant study uses optical tweezers and live-cell imaging to demonstrate the effects of a mechanical constraint on the dynamics of secretory membrane trafficking, combining physical experimental approaches with in cellulo studies of endomembranes.
