It is beginning to be recognized that autism covers a very wide range of ability and disability. In its most severe form, autism is more readily identified but, as with disability of any kind, there must be a point where the dividing line between autism and ‘normality’ is blurred. The problems experienced by young people who are less handicapped may be less obvious but can nevertheless create severe difficulties for them.
