Realization of islanding detection as a part of digital control of solar inverter

This paper describes in detail hardware and software aspects of realization of two islanding detection methods for grid connected solar inverters. The paper also describes the test procedure for verification of realized islanding detection methods, which is defined by the standard. Modern software tools (MATLAB/Simulink with Target Support Package and Code Composer Studio) are used for the realization of islanding detection algorithms and the control of the three-phase inverter prototype of rated power 3.7 kW per phase. The output current of the inverter prototype is controlled by hysteresis controller, and both the current controller and the detection algorithms are implemented on the Piccolo TMS320F28027 microcontroller. The described islanding detection methods are tested according to the standard, and the test results are presented in the paper. The obtained test results have shown that the applied islanding detection methods efficiently detect the inverter islanding operation.
