Tantalum carbide coated carbon material and a manufacturing method thereof

An object of the present invention is to provide at high temperatures, tantalum carbide coated carbon material having excellent corrosion resistance and thermal shock resistance to the reducing gas and its manufacturing method. According to the present invention, a carbon substrate, on the carbon substrate, a tantalum carbide-coated carbon material is provided with a coating film formed directly or via an intermediate layer. Coating film, a large number of fine crystals of tantalum carbide is formed by gathering densely, preferably in X-ray diffraction pattern of the coating film, strength diffraction intensity maximum based on (220) plane of tantalum carbide are shown, more preferably, the diffraction intensity shows a more than four times the intensity of the diffraction intensity of the high intensity second.
