Generating system for Alfvén waves in TCA/BR

1997
The TCA tokamak was transferred from the Centre de Recherches en Physique des Plasmas, Lausanne, to the Institute of Physics of University of Sao Paulo. The experiments on Alfven wave heating and current drive initiated at CRPP will be carried on in the new installation, renamed TCA/BR. Although no major modifications are planned for the basic device, the system for exciting Alfven waves will be substantially different from the one used in Lausanne. The antenna system of TCA/BR will be fed by a four-phase RF generator and will ensure the excitation of travelling waves of different modes with single helicity M=-1, N=-2,-4,-6 and RF power input into the plasma up to 1 MW. The RF system will be based on a four phase generator powered by a pulse forming line. The nominal parameters of the generator are frequency f= 2–8 MHz and pulse duration, τ = 20 msec, that is set by the capacitor bank presently available.
