Propagation Characteristics for Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Communication System in UHF Band

2010
Recently, the system that uses ITS technology is being developed to be put in practical use under the cooperation between the public and private sectors. And then safety-driving support systems using vehicle to vehicle, infrastructure, and pedestrian communication are developed to decrease the traffic accidents. To reduce the intersection accident, the system using radio channel in UHF(700MHz) band is to be considered. Communication performance (such as propagation characteristic, diffraction effect and quality in over-the-horizon communication) expected in vehicle to vehicle (V-V) communication has been clarified under the cooperation between Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MILT) in 2008.[1] However, vehicle to infrastructure (V-I) communication in 700MHz band is not considered enough. In this paper the evaluation result of V-I communication performance in order to discuss the applicability of wireless communication in 700MHz band for ITS systems is shown.
