Development of the Learning Environment

In September 2005, a research program began at the Bowen Island Community School (BICS), to support and encourage place-based curriculum development in addition to helping the school realize its broad environmental learning goals. This chapter documents and describes the school’s attempt to investigate how ecological literacy could become a core educational standard in the school while promoting responsible citizenship.
