: Robert C. Gallo, M.D., researcher for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is leaving after thirty years to launch a private research facility, the Institute of Human Virology. Based in Maryland, the new facility is scheduled to open in the next few months and will combine clinical care and epidemiology. Research efforts include work on a prevention vaccine, therapeutic vaccines, and gene therapy for HIV. Antisense therapy and cellular factors will also be a focus for the facility.
