Some Studies in Rice Bran Fatty Acid Distillation Residues

Residues obtainable from rice bran fatty acid distillation have been prepared. The high yield and unsaponifiable matter content of such residues (obtained by fat splitting and vacuum distillation) have been attributed to waxes and those esters of phytosterols which are present in crude oil as ferulates and alkanoates. Additionally, a dry extraction technique has been developed to conveniently extract the unsaponifiables from these residues. Preliminary investigations into the saponifiable portion of the residue indicated that apart from oxidized/polymerized materials, it also contained a good proportion of fatty acids with a high lignoceric acid content. Die hohe Ausbeute und der hohe Gehalt an unverseifbaren Bestandteilen, gewonnen durch Fettsaurespaltung und Destillation unter Vakuum, sind den Wachsen und den als Ferulate und Alkanoate anwesenden Estern der Phytosterine zuzuschreiben. Auserdem wurde eine Trockenextraktionsmethode entwickelt, um die unverseifbaren Bestandteile aus dem Ruckstand zu gewinnen. Anfangliche Untersuchungen des verseifbaren Anteils haben gezeigt, das der Ruckstand neben oxidierten/polymerisierten Verbindungen einen hohen Anteil an Fettsauren mit hohem Lignocerinsaure-Gehalt aufweist.
