COMPUTER USE IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. A SUMMARY OF FINDINGS FROM A NEW AGC SURVEY

Associated General Contractors of America conducted a survey of its members to determine their use of computers. More than 8,000 four-page surveys were sent out and the return rate was 24 percent. This article presents statistical results from the survey. Some of the items covered were annual volume of work; type of firm; current computer use; average number of employees; why some contractors still don't use computers; average annual expenditures on computers; most popular features used on computers; and most popular applications of computers. In summary, the main trend seems to be toward personal computers and software to run on them. While accounting appears to be used the most, it was listed as an area that needed development most. The overall level of satisfaction by users of computers was at 93 percent.
