The Effect of Transition on Croatia’s Scientific Drain

This paper focuses on the transition period in Croatia to investigate a specifi c time and place of the scientists’ drain. The paper is largely based on the fi ndings of three empirical studies. The actors of scientifi c and technological development were investigated in 1990 and 2004 using samples of the overall population of scientists in Croatia (scientists and researchers employed in universities, institutes and R&D units in the private and public sector), and in 1998 using a sample of researchers under 35 years of age.
