A method for spray application of refractory materials.

1987
A refractory compsn. is spray-worked by adding one-fifth to three-quarters of the amt. of water required for spray-working, and loading the mixt. into a dry spraying gun, introducing the rest of the water in the spray nozzle of the gun when spraying. The refractory compsn. contains 93-60% (by wt.) refractory substrate (e.g. fireclay, bauxite, alumina, sillimanite, mullite, silicon carbide, zircon, magnesia or chromite); 5-30% refractory powder (e.g. fireclay, kaolin, silica, alumina, zircon, magnesia or silicon carbide, pref. with grain size below 50 micron); 1-20% alumina cement (pref. a water-hardenable high-alumina cement conforming to JIS alumina cement 1 or 2); 0.01-0.5% dispersant (e.g. alkali metal phosphate or polyphosphate, pref. sodium hexametaphosphate or sodium ultrapolyphosphate) and 0.01-2% curing promoter (e.g. calcium hydroxide, sodium silicate or sodium aluminate).
