Retrospective Analysis of Multiple Primary Cancers:A Report of 30 Cases

Objective To explore the clinical characteristics,diagnosis,treatment and prognosis of multiple primary cancers(MPC) in order to promote its diagnosis and therapy.Methods Thirty MPC cases in our department from August 2006 to August 2011 were studied retrospectively.Results The incidence of MPC was 0.3%(30/10 015),in which the incidence of the duplex primary cancers was 0.26%,triple primary cancers was 0.03% and quadruple primary cancers was 0.01%,respectively.Primary cancer and repetitive cancer occurred most frequently in digestive system.There were 64 primary focuses in all,and the early diagnostic rate was 57.8%.The survival rate of five years was 76.6%.The survival time of 4 cases were over ten years.Conclusion The mechanism of MPC should be studied further in order to reduce the misdiagnosis.Early diagnosis and active treatment can prolong the survival span and improve prognosis of MPC patients.
