Activity of components of lipid peroxidation system and antioxidant protection in men with infertility, carriers of non-functional genotypes GSTT1 and GSTM1

2018
To evaluate the activity of components of the lipid peroxidation system and antioxidant protection in men with infertility, carriers of nonfunctional genotypes GSTT1 and GSTM1. There were examined 160 men with primary infertility and 104 fertile men. DNA was used as the material for studying of polymorphisms of the genes GSTT1 and GSTM1. DNA was taken from blood samples. The content of lipid peroxidation components and antioxidant protection was determined by spectrophotometric method. In men with infertility were established associations of nonfunctional polymorphism of the GSTM1 gene, moreover in the blood serum was an increase in the concentration of malonic dialdehyde (MDA) by 24% and a decrease in the activity of glutathione-S-transferase by 23%, furthermore, there were identified associations of nonfunctional polymorphism of the GSTT1 gene with the increasing of an MDA by 20%, glutathione peroxidase by 27%, glutathione reductase by 19% and retinol decreased by 19%. Genetically determined imbalance in the antioxidant defense system determines the activation of the lipid peroxidation process and contributes to a significant weakening of the metabolic and detoxifying functions of the organism, thereby, leading to a decrease in fertility in men.
