Automated instrument for ultrasonic structural analysis

1995
An instrument for measuring the velocity of bulk acoustic waves in solids is described. A small measurement error (∼0.05%) is achieved by implementing a phase technique. Microprocessor-based automation shortens the time for one measurement to 3–5 sec. The instrument can be used for the quality control of solid materials (glass, ceramics, crystals, etc.) in a mass-production environment.
