Total Knee Arthroplasty Without Cement or a Tourniquet

2021
Abstract To maintain best practice in total knee arthroplasty (TKA), historical gold standards must evolve based on current data to optimize patient outcomes. Mainstay techniques in TKA have traditionally included cemented fixation and use of a tourniquet. However, younger arthroplasty patients have the potential to benefit from the reliable and durable fixation afforded by modern cementless implants. Additionally, a surgeon must utilize the available literature to weigh the detriments and advantages (both real and perceived) of routine tourniquet use in TKA.
