Evaluation of Traffic Accident Cases at the Medical Council of Disability

World Health Organization report road traffic accidents are responsible for more than a million death per year and they are the most significant cause of morbidity and mortality around the world. Turkish statistical institute reported in “Traffic Accident Statics” form, 153552 traffic accitends that resulted 3750 death and 268079 injury in 2014. As a result of injury , in many casesphysical, mental, psychological and social skills can be lost in varying degrees and this may occour “disability” that is defined a person who has difficulties in orientating to social life, meeting his/her own daily requirements and needs to care, protection, rehabilitation, counselling and support services. Medical Council of Disability Report is a document that is prepared by this council, states the disability and healt condition of persons. By this document, persons benefit from a number of rights guaranteed to them. In this study Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital Medical Council of Disability reports between 01.01.2009-21.12.2013 belong to 103 cases referred for disability report after traffic accident were investigated retrospectively. 92 of cases were male and 11 case were female; age of cases are between 14 to 73 (mean: 39,03±12,87). Most of the cases were examinated in April (n=28, %27), minimal of the cases were examinated in December and January (two cases per, %2). Percentage of disability were between 0-92 and mean is 32,48±26,51. Most of the cases (n=59) are interest by orthopedics and 33 of this cases are interest much more one clinics. Disability arises as a social problem which reduces life standarts as well as needs to other people helps. On the other hand, traffic accidents exacerbate this problem by causing disability. To reduce mostly preventable traffic accidents and disability, we believe that the necessary measures should be taken.
