INTERNATIONAL BENCHMARKS FOR PERFORMANCE COMPARISON OF INFRASTRUCTURE
2000
In this paper the development of a system of benchmarks of international performance indicators for infrastructure networks at the regional level in Northwestern Europe is discussed. The benchmark system comprises four main elements: basic indicators (GDP, population, network length, prices of fuel, labour, etc); passenger transport (road, rail); goods transport (road, rail barge); and airports (passengers). The benchmark system presently covers six countries (Belgium, Luxembourg, UK, Germany, France, Netherlands) comprising 43 regions (EU NUTS 2 level). In some of the basic data exhibits below also data for Northern European countries are included. Such extensions should become permanent in a next version of the benchmark. Principal data sources were: Eurostat, IRF, OECD, National statistical agencies. For the covering abstract see ITRD E107082.
