Study on Antimicrobial and Insecticidal Activity of Caffeine in Tea Plant

Caffeine is the major component of alkaloids in tea plant.Biological function of caffeine in tea plant was studied in this paper.Filter paper dispersion and mycelial growth rate methods were used to determine the antimicrobial activity.The method of feeding insect with caffeine to determine the insecticidal activity.The results showed the caffeine could inhibit the growth of tested bacteria and fungi,and the caffeine had high toxicity to tested insect.
