Recent advance in vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia and its complications

Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBD) is a kind of variable cerebrovascular diseases characterized by significant expansion, elongation, and tortuosity of the vertebrobasilar arteries, while VBD mechanism is not entirely clear. Clinical reports regarding the combination of VBD with some other diseases are common, for example, metabolic syndrome, vascular malformations, congenital diseases, infectious diseases, immune-related diseases. Here we systematically review research progress on VBD and its complications from several aspects to help the study of its prevention and treatment.
