The children's heart

Following casuistically performed procedures in the Fifties, in Vienna the institutional cardiac surgery programme started in December 1962. In parallelism with the professional life of Ernst Wolner over 43 years at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery (the former Second Department of Surgery), thereof 27 years as Head of this University Department the development of paediatric cardiac surgery is outlined, as well as future perspectives.
