Building Damage and Seismic Intensity in Bam City from the2003 Bam, Iran, Earthquake

Summary Earthquake damage of 839 buildings in and around Bam City was investigated, and seismic intensities using European Macroseismic Scale 1998 (EMS98) were estimated. Northern and eastern sides of Bam City showed higher damage rates (more than 80%), whereas southern and western sides showed much lower rates (down to 20%). Combining those results and vulnerability classes of various building types, the estimated MSK intensities were higher (up to ⅩⅠ) in the northern and eastern sides, and lower (down to Ⅷ) in the south and west sides.
