A comparison of the depassivation of stainless steels by mechanical and electrochemical techniques

1988
Abstract The breakdown of passive films formed on stainless steels surface has been studied in 30 wt% MgCl 2 at 117°C. The electrochemical responses of materials to two different modes of disturbance of passive films, the first by rapid plastic deformation, the second by anodic polarization, have been analyzed and compared.
